godard has style, at least early godard, i mean. his movies are enjoyable and fun. i don’t watch them for emotional depth. if i want depth i watch bergman, or countless others, none of which are bresson. bresson removes the depth from his films forcing the characters to become emotionless stick figures that are annoying rather than sympathetic. if you tell me you felt for joan of arc, or felt for mouchette, or felt for marie (in balthazar) i will call you a liar. watch forbidden games or cranes are flying. that is fucking emotion. those are fucking performances.
