he is one of the most annoying and pretentious filmmakers to ever live, yet i still remain somewhat fascinated by him. i hate his very stripped down style of directing where he removes everything that makes a movie enjoyable. he also gets some of the worst performances out of his non-actors i’ve ever seen. i do enjoy two of his movies: man escaped and pickpocket, but that’s because the subject matter manages to hold the movie and be entertaining on its own. the movies i hate by him: au hasard balthazar, mouchette, trial of joan of arc, l’argent, and lancelot of the lake. les dames du bois de boulogne i am indifferent toward and don’t really count since it was before he lost the urge to make a movie entertaining or interesting.
