April 2011
We woke up really early and went all over town shopping and ate at the best Chinese buffet in town. I ended up buying another 70+ VHS for my collection. Went to a great store and found a brand new box full of horror tapes, bought tons of those, as well as some other sweet shit. I’ve decided to put every bit of extra money I get into building my collection.
A friend of mine hooked me up with a few free VHS, too. Got like one or two that’ll be for VHShitfest and then a few for my collection. Over the course of the day I added a bunch of stuff to my Nickelodeon collection. I found like four new Secret World of Alex Mack books I didn’t have, a newer Rugrats tape (though it’s from 1999; I think it’s most of the first episodes with Dill which aren’t super bad, it wasn’t until they went to Paris that they completely started sucking), then I got one for my friend, got an All Grown Up! tape which was really solid (I surprisingly like this show; it crushes post-Paris rugrats), and a Rugrats tape from the ‘96 line (but inside it had fucking Babes in Toyland instead of the right thing; luckily I know a place that has a ton of Nickelodeon VHS without the boxes so I can just go there and replace it hopefully). Ally gave me a few great things, including a copy of Harriet the Spy with the ads still inside (!) and three (!) Rugrats Chuckie dolls (one from the huge line [which I had Reptar from already], one smaller one that looks like he fell asleep in the sun, and one really small one that looks retarded! It was so funny when I pulled them all out of the box, from smallest to largest.
At a Salvation Army I found some surprisingly amazing books (I really looked hard through the kids section aka the best section), including a 1998 Rugrats book where Tommy’s parents are zombies, the first Hey Arnold! chapter book, two Disney’s Doug books, a great 1998 Rugrats Christmas lift-the-flap book, a Ghostbusters 2 activity book, and a Big Top Pee-Wee hard cover storybook!
After watching Jersey Show at Ally’s new house I went home only to get my Easter basket early, which has tons of great shit in it, and to find a rare Nickelodeon tape I ordered came in, Don’t Just Sit There! One of the better days I’ve had and I’m leaving for New York City on Tuesday. Now if only I didn’t have to write this paper…
